Hive Composites delivers innovative, engineer-led R&D support across all Technology Readiness Levels. Our experienced engineers collaborate with and support your team within projects backed by Innovate UK, ATI, DESNZ, Horizon Europe, Eurostars and more.
We bring you a specialist research partner with the commercial instinct of an engineering business that has taken a host of technologies from ideation to market.

Successful R&D outcomes require disciplined project management in order to remain on time, on budget, and aligned to stakeholder objectives. Hive has developed this ability across decades and through a wide range of project scales and structures.
Our track record spans everything from focused, early-stage feasibility studies through to large, multi-million pound, multinational programmes involving multiple stakeholders, funding streams, and regulatory frameworks.
Regardless of the project scope, we bring the same rigour and attention to detail to planning, risk management, reporting, and delivery.

Hive’s support does not stop at research and development - our engineers also provide comprehensive support towards commercialisation.
Our engineers are experienced in supporting projects at TRL stages 6-9. It means that - whether you need a partner for a single project or an end-to-end development programme - Hive brings expert composites capability directly into your operation.
What is Hive’s R&D capability?
R&D services at Hive Composites cover TRL stage 1-5 - from basic concept formulation through to validated proof-of-concept. Our commercialisation consultancy covers TRL 6–9, where we help take proven concepts through design, certification, and commercial manufacture.
Can Hive join an existing R&D consortium as a specialist partner?
Yes. Hive is a well-established participant in the UK and European R&D ecosystem. We can join funded consortia as a specialist technical sub-contractor - contributing to specific workstreams in materials characterisation, structural design, process development, or prototype build - or take on a consortium lead role.
How does Hive differ from a university research group or Catapult centre?
Hive is an engineering-led consultancy, not a research institution. We are working engineers with decades of industry and hands-on composites experience. Every R&D decision we make is through the lens of commercial viability and the path to market.
Does Hive hold proprietary materials data?
Yes. Hive has accumulated a substantial proprietary material database from years of in-house testing. This gives us the ability to make more accurate structural performance predictions at the early R&D stage - reducing the risk of late-stage surprises and improving the efficiency of proof-of-concept work.
Can Hive help prepare and strengthen an Innovate UK funding bid?
Yes. Hive's track record in delivering funded R&D programmes means we understand what strong bids look like. We can contribute to all sections of a funding application, advise on TRL positioning, and help identify appropriate collaborative partners from within our established network.
